Introduction of Tokyo Cocoro Japanese Language School

Let me introduce Tokyo Cocoro Japanese Language School, which was founded in 2019 in Itabashi City, Tokyo!

This is Tokyo Cocoro's management team! It is a pleasure to meet you!

Tokyo Cocoro Japanese Language School (located in Itabashi City, Tokyo) was founded in 2019, making it a comparatively new Japanese language school. ※The school has been officially certified by the Immigration Bureau of Japan since 2020.

Shortly after the school first opened its doors, the emergence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) hampered operations, and we faced many difficulties. However, despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the school put in place various protective measures and managed not to lose a single part-time or full-time instructor (in fact, the number of instructors increased!!). Thankfully, our patience and perseverance in running the school paid off. We currently have just under 90 students enrolled in our language programs.

Moving forward, we would like to focus on our desire to welcome many students who are interested in studying the Japanese language. Hence, I would like to take a moment to introduce the school and its beliefs, goals and methods!

What type of school is Tokyo Cocoro?

Communicates the "heart" (Cocoro) through practical, everyday language.

On top of grammar studies, JLPT preparation and guidance for higher education, the school aims to help students acquire "useable Japanese" through detailed lessons that cover "reading", "writing", "listening" and "speaking", as we believe that these form the foundation of language learning. Additionally, we hope that our students will be able to experience Japanese culture, understand the importance of learning languages and live a rich, meaningful life filled with "heart", aided by the Japanese that they have learned with us.

Courses

We offer a variety of courses to meet the goals of each student, such as passing the JLPT, moving on to higher education (university or technical institution), a "study abroad" course for those ultimately seeking employment, "short courses" that can be attended regardless of time of enrollment or length of study, "group lessons" where you can enjoy learning with your friends at affordable prices, and "private lessons" for intensive one-on-one learning. On top of that, we have introduced a new "online lesson" option, which was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, we are now able to teach Japanese to students regardless of where they are in the world! For those in the "study abroad" course, we offer free online lessons once a week!

Where do our students come from?

When looking at student nationality, data shows that 71% of our students come from China. Most of our students aim to pursue higher education in Japanese universities and study diligently every day. As for Western students, who have come to Japan for various reasons, 21% may seem like a very low figure. However, the number of Western students seeking to study abroad has been steadily increasing every year, and we have seen a 150% increase in Western students enrolled at our school since our establishment. Hence, that cannot be called low. We have also received many applications for our "study abroad" course for April 2023. Other Asian countries account for the lowest percentage at 6.5%. However, there is no concentration of a single nationality, as our students come from various countries.。

The outdoor area on the first floor of the school building serves as a community space, where you can find students mingling with one another before and after class, and during breaks. Just from the photos, you can see that our students get along very well!

Communication between the school and our students is done on the Slack application. Daily reports to the school, consultations regarding daily life, requests for certificates and other related correspondence are all handled online, ensuring smooth communication with our students. There is a channel where all the school's students can intermingle, and it is an interactive and lively space!

Various extracurricular activities

Extracurricular activities are one of the unique features of Tokyo Cocoro Japanese Language School. These activities are held 8 times a year, much more frequently than other schools. The content of the activities ranges from academic to traditional Japanese experiences, such as going to Tokyo Disneyland, having barbeques and many more!

The most exciting event of this year was, surprisingly, watermelon-splitting 😂🍉
